Klinkhart Hall Arts Center

Creating a permanent home for the Arts in Sharon Springs, NY

Klinkhart Hall Arts Center, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization that seeks to preserve the historic Klinkhart Hall building in Sharon Springs, New York and to establish it as an arts center for the regional and local communities.

“The preservation and rehabilitation of the historic Klinkhart Hall building as the physical home for the already thriving KHAC arts and cultural programming will directly contribute to the growing vibrancy and economic activity of the village historic district. It will add a cultural hub to the village, provide a much needed and long absent arts venue, improve the streetscape of the historic district, directly support other revitalization efforts, and it will further enhance the appeal of the village as a tourist destination. Currently, there is no similar facility in this under-served and economically disadvantaged area.”

from the 2018 Consolidated Funding Application (CFA) that launched the building restoration project with $720,000 in New York State funding

Klinkhart Hall has played a part in the life of Sharon Springs for well over a century, first as a hardware store and opera house, then as a Masonic Hall and a movie theater. And, always, as a place where the community gathered. Soon, it will be that again.

Klinkhart Hall Arts Center is pleased to announce the 6th annual Sharon Springs Poetry Festival, live and in-person and with another brilliant line-up of poets!

Jennifer Grotz, Joyce Carol Oates, and Terrance Hayes will join Festival founder Paul Muldoon on Friday & Saturday, October 14 & 15, 2022.

On Friday night, October 14, at 7:30 PM each of our guest poets Joyce Carol OatesJennifer Grotz, and Terrance Hayes will present a public reading in the auditorium of the Sharon Springs Central School. Afterward, you’ll be able to meet the poets in the lobby, purchase a copy of one of their books — which they will gladly sign — and meet your fellow poetry lovers. This event is free and open to the public.

As always, the Sharon Springs Poetry Festival includes one very special event that is not open to the public . . .

Paul Muldoon and the three guest poets will conduct poetry workshops for students in local area schools. Sharon Springs Central School will host and coordinate the event, and this year’s student participants will be from Sharon Springs, Cobleskill-Richmondville, Cooperstown, and Canajoharie.

Why are such well-known and accomplished poets willing to do this? Because, like us, they know it is important. Like us, they believe that the arts are essential and that they contribute in direct and tangible ways to the well-being of diverse and democratic societies. What better way to show our commitment to these lofty ideals than to support the work and enthusiasm of our students & teachers?
