The mission of the Fulton County Historical Society is to acquire, preserve and promote the history of Fulton County, NY and to convey the significance to the public with tours, exhibits, programs, and research. The Fulton County Historical Society provides unique programs, exhibits, and events, thanks to generous supporters like you!
Our Research Library is available on Saturday 10a.m. to 4p.m. by appointment only. If possible, please schedule by noon Friday for next day appointment.

Visit the Caroga Historical Association’s outdoor museum which includes a 1905 farmhouse, an 1870 cobbler shop, general store and 130-year-old pegged barn, with displays on the county’s early leather tanning and lumber industries. There is a large collection of Sherman’s Amusement Park memorabilia.

Peck’s Park Historical Society, Peck’s Park Schoolhouse and Museum. The school was built by John Peck for his children and for the workers’ children. His businesses were a tannery and sawmill. There was no electricity until 1938. In 1890 the teacher was paid $7.50 per week. The school continued until 1959. The wonderful thing about the school is that all of the desks, etc. were stored by the Peck family. In 1995 the property use was donated by the Peck Family to the Historical Society and the school restored. It is a real functioning museum that people can walk into.

The Mayfield Historical Society maintains the The Rice Homestead as a museum to illustrate the history of the area in a house built in 1810 which also features its 1790 homesteading cabin.

The Fonda Johnstown and Gloversville R.R. Is Born
The first organization for building a railroad into Fulton County was effected in 1865. The road was to run from Fonda through Johnstown and Gloversville to Caroga.
