Prior to the 18th century, the lands that would become Fulton County were used by the Mohawk Indians as hunting and fishing grounds. By the turn of the century, New Englanders and settlers from the Hudson River Valley were looking to expand, hoping to find farmland along the frontier.

The George Hendrickson, “A Fossil Imagined”, is a collection of artwork of varying mediums created during the pandemic that represent a morbid examination of past extinctions. This exhibition will be available for viewing in-person by appointment from April 4 – May 13th. Regular gallery hours are Monday-Friday 9AM-4PM.
The wisdom of historic preservation has not always been a given. The desire by some to preserve old buildings and places is at times pitted against those who would rather “start over” with new construction.
Some of the earliest European settlers in the Mohawk Valley came from what is now southwest Germany. Under near constant threat of destruction, whether from multiple wars, invasions, or the plague, in the near hundred years leading up to the 18th century, the southwest German population experienced extreme hardship. In some cases, entire towns and villages were wiped out.
