Founded in 1979, the Allegany River Dancers have become one of the best-known Native dance groups in North America. Their performances often encourage audience participation and feature intertribal “Pow wow” style dances, such as a dance that uses 30 hoops to form designs found in nature.
Bear Fox
Theresa Bear Fox is a Native American from the Mohawk Nation and grew up on a reservation called Akwesasne, located in upstate New York and Canada. She has been making music in both Mohawk and English for twenty years and feels called to share her music to uplift her community and encourage more people to learn Mohawk. She has released four CDs and also writes songs for a Mohawk women’s singing group, Kontiwennenhawi, which means “Carriers of the Words.”
