Historical Society Welcomes Generous Donations
The Mayfield Historical Society was recently a recipient of a very generous grant from the Tim and Tina Delaney Family Foundation for the exterior painting and window glazing of The Rice Homestead which will be accomplished during the summer of 2023.
Mayfield Historical Society President Robert Suits accepts a check from the Tim and Tina Delaney Foundation from Ashley Delaney and her daughter, Eleanor Olson.
The Society also welcomed generous donations this summer from Michael and Nancy Frank and the Northville Rotary whose funds are also set aside for the painting project.
Ashley Delaney and her daughter Eleanor Olson attended a meeting of the Historical Society to present a check to Society President Robert Suits. Vice President Lisa Wemple was recognized as helping to obtain the gift through discussions with the Delaney family. The Delaney Family Foundation also made a contribution for last year’s replacement of the roof at The Rice Homestead. Delaney said, “One of the priorities of the Foundation is to support our local community.” She said she remembers attending events at the Homestead with her grandmother, going to the ice cream socials, and to the festivals, so contributing to help keep the building and the organization moving forward was a natural fit for the Foundation’s goals.
The Mayfield Historical Society based at The Rice Homestead, built in 1810, endeavors to provide a focal point for community activities and historical and educational events.
It also preserves and protects the heritage of the community by providing a home for historical archives and artifacts. Popular Mayfield Historical Society events include the Strawberry Festival, Ice-Cream Social and Concert, Fall Harvest Cruise-in, Christmas Open House, as well as offering a variety of historical presentations throughout the year and free tours of the Rice Homestead. The historical society is a non-profit, all volunteer organization which welcomes the support and participation of all community members. The contributions made for the Homestead painting project by the Delaney Foundation and other generous community contributors will enable the Historical Society to continue fulfilling its important mission on behalf of the entire Mayfield community for years to come.
