Please join the Clinton Historical Society as they welcome Phil Bean for his rescheduled presentation—Utica, an Olmsted City.

Sunday (March 10) at 2 p.m. at 1 Fountain St., Clinton

Phil will present an illustrated talk about the origins, creation, and restoration of Utica’s Olmsted parks and parkway system, as well the area’s Olmsted-designed neighborhoods and efforts by his organization, Olmsted City of Greater Utica, Inc., to restore and enhance Utica’s Frederick T. Proctor Park, which was designed by Olmsted and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Philip Bean is a native of Utica and a graduate of Proctor High School, Union College, Oxford University, and the University of Rochester. He has served as a part-time lecturer at Harvard and Hamilton colleges and as a dean at Harvard and Haverford colleges. He is the author of 9 peer-reviewed research articles that use Utica as a case study, in addition to a book, The Urban Colonists: Italian American Identity and Politics in Utica, New York (Syracuse University Press, 2010). He also served as Associate Editor for European Immigration History for the Encyclopedia of New York State (Syracuse University Press, 2005).
