Herkimer, NY – September 2024 – The Herkimer County Historical Society is thrilled to announce a series of engaging events designed to bring history, art, and genealogy to life. From painting classes to historic tours, these events offer something for everyone interested in local culture and history.

Watercolor Painting Class

Join us for a creative evening with Vicki, who has selected a brand-new picture to guide us through the art of watercolor painting. This hands-on class will be held on Monday, September 9th at 5:30 p.m. Seating is limited, so be sure to reserve your spot! Cost: $25 per person (includes all supplies)

Frank Snell: The Man, The Machine, The Mystery

Discover the incredible story of Frank Snell from Waterville, a pioneer in automotive history, who built a horseless carriage in 1900 that could reach speeds of 15-20 mph. Presented by Robert Taylor, a member of the Society of Automotive Historians, this talk will explore Snell’s mechanical genius and his legacy. Date: September 18th, 6 p.m.

Bring your sign-in information and questions to this free workshop, where you’ll receive personalized guidance on your genealogical journey. Donations are appreciated.

Herkimer Historic Corners Tour

Step back in time with our guided walking tour through Herkimer’s historic corners. Learn about notable figures like Chester Gillette, Roxalana Druse, the Palatine Germans, and Dr. A. Walter Suiter. The tour begins in front of the Reformed Church, with a possible visit to the Courthouse, depending on availability.
