Local History Series to feature Aurora Pfaff with “Aviation in the Adirondacks”

On Thursday, August 1, at 5 pm the Town of Webb Historical Association’s popular Local History Series will feature Aurora Wheeler Pfaff with a presentation on her newly published book: Aviation in the Adirondacks.

The presentation will be held at the Old Forge Library, 220 Crosby Blvd. Illustrated using a variety of historic images and postcards, Aurora Pfaff tells the story of pilots who linked Adirondack communities by air, transported goods and people, and the small towns and airfields that they called home. Images used in Aurora’s book came from the Town of Webb Historical Association, The Adirondack Experience: The Museum on Blue Mountain Lake, Historic Saranac Lake, Keene Valley Library, Piseco Lake Historical Society, individuals, and other organizations.

Aurora Wheeler Pfaff

Aurora is a writer and editorial content manager based in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York. She has a master’s degree in English from Harvard University, but as a child dreamed of becoming an astronaut. She finally took her first flying lesson in 2022. As a freelance writer, Aurora has been published in Adirondack Life, Majesty, LOCAL adk, New York Archives, and Beyond Words Literary Magazine. and she is currently at work on a memoir about her relationship with her grandmother, who helped raise her and for whom she cared for when her grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Every Thursday this summer the Local History Series features a different speaker presenting a local history subject. The public is invited to come and enjoy the talks, ask questions, and share related information. The series is free and open to the public.
