Hartwick College Invites Community to Day of Jazz, Learning and Live Performance

ONEONTA, NY Hartwick College will host its third annual Jazz Day on Saturday, April 18, at the Anderson Center for the Arts, welcoming musicians and community members from across the greater Oneonta area. The daylong event will feature masterclasses, ensemble clinics and a performance clinic led by guest artist Godwin Louis, a Grammy-nominated saxophonist who was born in Harlem and raised in Haiti, and who has collaborated with artists including Herbie Hancock, Clark Terry, Ron Carter and Jack DeJohnette. Louis, who has performed worldwide and traveled to more than 100 countries studying the African music diaspora, will work directly with participating musicians during the afternoon clinic.

Local musicians of all levels are still invited to sign up to perform a jazz standard and receive live feedback. Registration is $10, and organizers note that financial barriers should not prevent participation; submitting the form does not guarantee selection. The event will conclude with a free open-to-the-public concert at 7 p.m., with a runtime of approximately 75 minutes. All Jazz Day activities will take place in the Anderson Center for the Arts on Hartwick’s campus.
