Gloversville Downtown Development Specialist to Participate in National Historic Marker Day
GLOVERSVILLE, NY – The Gloversville Downtown Development Specialist (GDDS) is set to participate in National Historic Marker Day. On Friday, April 25th, at 11:00 a.m., Jennifer Donovan and others from Fulton County Center for Regional Growth (CRG) will be cleaning historic markers throughout Downtown Gloversville.
Cleanup to begin at the Trail Station Park historic marker
Donovan announced that the cleanup will begin at the Trail Station Park marker located on West Fulton Street. For those interested in exploring other historical markers in the vicinity, a comprehensive list is available at www.hmdb.org. Donovan highlighted the synergy with other April cleanup initiatives, stating, “With other clean-up days scheduled for April, this offers another engaging way to contribute to our community while also highlighting local history.” The Trail Station Park marker specifically commemorates the former headquarters of the Fonda, Johnstown and Gloversville (FJ&G) Railroad.
National Historic Marker Day is a grassroots initiative launched by the William G. Pomeroy Foundation, a Syracuse-based philanthropic organization.
The aim is to encourage community involvement in the upkeep of local historical markers through cleaning and to foster an appreciation for local history. Further details about National Historic Marker Day can be found at www.wgpfoundation.org. According to the NYS Historic Marker Database, New York State boasts over 12,000 historical markers.
