Glove Cities Arts Alliance Launches Gallery Season Under New Leadership

Following a vote by members, The Glove Cities Arts Alliance (GCAA) welcomes its new Executive Board members, which consist of performing artist and creative director of Trust Your Gut Productions, Michael Maricondi (President), internationally recognized jazz bassist, Michael Bisio (Vice President), regional musician, Ryan Spilken (Treasurer), and regional attorney and antique book collector, Jon Federman (Secretary, incumbent).

The Glove Cities Arts Alliance was founded in 2021 by local artist and arts educator, Janelle Krause, and regional artist, Robert Tomlinson.

The Alliance recently launched Persona, the opening exhibition curated by Tomlinson, at The Glove Cities Gallery, located at 52 Church Street in Gloversville.  The gallery is a partnership between the Glove Cities Arts Alliance and Kearney Realty & Development Group and is attached to the new Glove City Lofts complex.

“We are very grateful to the past leadership members for their energy, creativity, and support in the founding of GCAA as well as their opening the doors for the creation and proliferation of The Glove Cities Gallery,” said new Board President, Maricondi.  “We look forward to continuing their mission of uniting the arts, artists, organizations, and audiences of Gloversville and beyond.”.  The Alliance was the recipient of multiple Saratoga Arts grants for exhibitions and community projects, as well as serving as fiscal sponsor for individual artists including Dawn Bisio, Chimera Jazz, and more.

GCAA is currently hosting a dual exhibition through March 7th at the Glove Cities Gallery.

Entry is free to all community members, though donations are graciously accepted.  On the main floor, guests can explore Persona, the artwork of regional artists Ingrid Nichter, Hannah Williams, and GCAA co-founder, Janelle Krause.  In the gallery’s mezzanine, guests are invited into The Psychedelic Shack to experience an immersive installation by music afficionado and collector, Alex Miller, who served as general manager for Decca Records amongst other accomplished positions.  During Persona/The Psychedelic Shack’s stay at the gallery, the GCAA is also hosting other free-to-attend events, including “The Hi-Fi Record Club”, a listening club led by Miller (February 19 & 26, 5-7pm), an Artist Talk with Janelle Krause (February 21, 1-3pm), and a Poetry Open Mic(less) (March 7, 1-3pm).  GCAA hopes to make the Poetry Open Mic(less) a monthly programming staple.  Following the closure of Persona/The Psychedelic Shack, GCAA will open Material Conversations, a textile art exhibition featuring works by Dawn Bisio and Judith Plotner.  Bisio’s “FACE FORWARD: The People of Gloversville” series is a Community Arts Project made possible by Saratoga Arts through the Community Arts Regrant Program, funded by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.

Future exhibitions featuring works by Pamela Sunday, Paul Sunday, Dawn Bisio, Alexandra Higgins, and Clayton Thomas are scheduled for late spring and early summer, as well as a GCAA Member Exhibition and juried community exhibition/holiday market in the fall and winter.

All exhibition opening artist receptions are scheduled in tandem with openings at Downtown Gloversville’s Micropolis Art Gallery, a consistent and valued partner of GCAA, and visitors are urged to attend both events to fully support the regional arts community.
