Cinema Sunday at Schoharie Crossing
Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site will be screening a 1956 film to start their Cinema Sundays 2023 series.
This film will explore love and the American Revolution in the Mohawk Valley. The movie will be viewed inside the Enders House on Schoharie Street, adjacent to the Visitor Center on May 21st at 1:00pm.
Join in the fun as we watch this classic film set on the frontier of New York during the colonial era. It stars Scott Brady, Rita Gam, and Allison Hayes in roles that weave a tale of young passion, deceit, and over-the-top Hollywood heroism. Jonathan, an artist working for a Massachusetts society to paint frontier scenes at a remote army post, is away from Boston so long that his fiancée, Cynthia, chaperoned by her Aunt Agatha, travel to Fort Alden looking for him. She finds him enjoying the company of the storekeeper’s daughter as well as mixed up with a Mohawk Chief’s daughter, all while a vengeful settler begins stirring up war for his own gain.
Enjoy the film and discuss some of the liberties Hollywood took with history.
These events are free and open to the public, however donations to the non-profit Friends of Schoharie Crossing are always graciously accepted. Refreshments will be available.
