Upcoming History-Related Events in the Mohawk Valley

If you’re interested in learning and experiencing the history of the Mohawk Valley and supporting local historical societies, we have some great upcoming events for you.

Historic sites and local historical societies play an important role throughout the Mohawk Valley preserving the long history of our region. These organizations and historic locations help to tell the stories the people, places and events that have shaped our communities, the valley, New York State and the country.

One of the best ways to learn about local history is to visit and join in events held at local historical societies. Here are just a few of the upcoming events happening at local historical societies across the region:

Herkimer County

  • Herkimer County Historical Society Annual Craft Fair begins at 10:00 a.m on Saturday, November 8 at the Pathways Academy located at 77 East North Street, Ilion.Get into the fall spirit with the Herkimer County Historical Society  annual Craft Fair!77 East North Street, Ilion. 
  • The First Baptist Church of Newport will host an Organ Recital Celebrates 225th Anniversary of First Baptist Church of Newport. The First Baptist Church of Newport located at 7497 Main Street in Newport, will celebrate its 225th anniversary with an organ recital on Sunday, November 9 at 3:00 p.m. Guest organist Dominic Fiacco, a junior at the Eastman School of Music, will perform on the church’s historic 1873 Marklove Organ, one of the finest surviving examples of its kind.
  • Herkimer County Historical Society Genealogy Workshop Have you always wanted to start a family tree, but aren’t sure where or how to start? Started your tree, but now you are stuck? Come sit with our researcher on eyesight, November 18 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at
    406 N. Main St. Herkimer, NY. Please call to reserve a seat.

Fulton County

  • Outlander in the Mohawk Valley series wraps up with Women of the Saratoga Campaign with Anne Clothier. Join us for the final installment of the “Outlander in the Mohawk Valley” series on Wednesday, November 12th at 7pm at the museum! Anne Clothier from the Saratoga County Historian’s Office returns to present Women of the Saratoga Campaign.
  • Bowling for History with the Fulton County Historical Society invites you to grab some friends and head on over to Arterial Lanes on Saturday, November 8th from 12-3pm for Bowling for History! Tickets are $20 per person and include your lane and shoe rental. The museum will have basket drawings, a 50/50, and more! Pre-registration isn’t required but is encouraged – you can sign up online here to reserve your space and pay at the door.

Oneida County

  • Bicentennial Church Services: Unitarian Universalist Church of Utica
    10 Higby Road, Utica, New York on November 9. For two centuries, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Utica has stood as a beacon of community, compassion, and commitment to social justice—principles deeply rooted in both its founding and its ongoing mission. Today, UU Utica begins a three month celebration of its two hundred years in Utica.
  • Utica on Film: Landmark Moments at the Oneida County History Center on November 8 at 2:00 p.m. encourages you to view footage of the 1932 Centennial, the new Genesee Street Bridge opening, the Boston Store expansion, and the farewell to Donalty and Callahan’s Saloon.
  • Oneida County History Center Behind the Scenes Tours on November 15 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. take you beyond the exhibits and delve into the heart of our collections, where over 200 years of local history are carefully preserved. This exclusive experience offers you a rare look at areas usually closed to the public, providing an intimate view of the preservation and research process that brings history to life.
